Eco-responsible pool heating at low cost

Do you have a swimming pool and want to enjoy it for as long as possible without breaking the bank? This article shows you the best ways to make the most of the swimming season and save money at the same time.

Swimming pool heat pumps

Heat pumps are efficient and eco-friendly ways of heating swimming pools. They use thermal energy from the outside air to heat the pool water, offering an economical solution compared with traditional heating systems.

How they work

Heat pumps work on a simple principle: they capture heat from the outside air and transfer it to the pool water. Here are the main stages in the process:

  • Drawing in the outside air: The heat pump draws in the outside air through a fan.
  • Heat extraction: The air passes over an evaporator containing a refrigerant that absorbs the heat.
  • Compression: The refrigerant is compressed, increasing its temperature.
  • Heat transfer: The heat from the compressed fluid is transferred to the pool water via a heat exchanger..
  • Return cycle: The cooled refrigerant returns to the evaporator to start the cycle again.

Benefits

  • Energy efficiency: Heat pumps can produce up to five times more energy than they consume. In other words, for every kilowatt of electricity used, they can generate up to five kilowatts of heat.
  • Cost savings: Although the initial investment is higher than for other heating systems, the savings on energy bills in the long term are significant.
  • Environmentally friendly: Heat pumps use mainly outside air, a renewable and free resource, reducing the carbon footprint.

Photovoltaic panels

Photovoltaic panels offer another environmentally-friendly solution for heating a swimming pool. By converting solar energy into electricity, they can power your equipment, including heat pumps.

How it works

Photovoltaic panels capture solar energy and convert it into electricity using photovoltaic cells. This electricity can then be used to power swimming pool heating equipment.

  • Electricity generation: Photovoltaic cells absorb sunlight and generate an electric current.
  • Storage or direct use: The electricity produced can be used immediately to heat the pool or stored in batteries for later use.
  • Powering equipment: The electricity is used to power heating elements or heat pumps, which transfer this thermal energy to the pool water.

Benefits

  • Renewable energy: Solar panels use a clean, inexhaustible source of energy – the sun.
  • Lower energy costs: Once installed, solar panels provide free electricity, significantly reducing energy bills.
  • Energy independence: They reduce dependence on electricity suppliers and price fluctuations.

Polytropic solutions

At Polytropic, specialists in pool heating since 2003, we offer pool heat pumps that combine performance with respect for the environment.

Master-Inverter

Thanks to its exclusive intelligent control system, the Master-Inverter heat pump regulates its power according to the water temperature, but also according to the ambient temperature, to always ensure the right swimming pool temperature, the best COP and the lowest noise level.

With its 3 operating modes, you can control your pool heating and your costs with complete peace of mind:

  • BOOST mode: 85% to 100% of power used to ensure rapid temperature rise,
  • ECO-Silence mode: from 25% to 60% of power is used, the COP and noise level are prioritised, the fan runs at minimum speed and the compressor runs to promote the COP.
  • SMART mode: power and sound level are automatically adjusted according to the outside temperature and the temperature of the water in your pool.

PolySolar Energy System

The PolySolar Energy System solution, developed by Polytropic, combines the challenges of energy sobriety and hybridisation of electricity sources to lower your electricity bill! With kits ranging from 1 to 7 panels, there’s sure to be one to suit your project.

Combine your heat pump with the PolySolar Energy Sytem and convert solar radiation into electricity. Each photovoltaic panel optimally supplies the pool heat pump with up to 100% of the power required over the season (depending on the number of panels, exposure and geographical location), with the remainder being supplied by the conventional electricity grid.

As soon as the water in the pool reaches 28°C, the surplus energy produced supplies the rest of the pool house equipment, as well as the rest of the house!
